Pink Lemonade Productions

Tell us a bit about your family?

My husband and I have two children aged two and three, and a Jura hound called Rolo. We live in a quiet parish just outside of Woodbridge in Suffolk.

What’s your business called?

My business is called Pink Lemonade Productions.

Can you describe it in one sentence?

Pink Lemonade Productions is a staging, styling and prop hire company bringing vintage and retro nostalgia to events across East Anglia.

When did you start it and what inspired you?

Originally a wedding planning consultancy started in 2012, I had been on maternity leave and ready to throw the towel in on the 9-5, which offered no flexibility around my new family life. I had a passion for wedding blogging, and so off the back of this I started my own company, which underwent a colossal rebrand with a vintage twist in 2014 to better reflect the needs of my clients.

How did you fund your start up?

Pink Lemonade Productions is a Princes Trust funded start up.

How do you manage working around your children?

It’s not always easy, admittedly, but they are now in nursery two full days a week, which is flexible. I have a good support network of friends and family who step in to help out where they can.

Can you describe a typical day, what tasks do you have to get done, how do you manage your time?

Morning is usually opening the diary, planning my day ahead, answering emails and updating the social media pages. Then I might go to a meeting with a potential client, or load up my stock to dress a venue. Venue dressing typically takes 2-4 hours.

What challenges have you faced in your business and how have you overcome them?

Cash flow and childcare have both been the bane of my existence, but with perseverance, a solid business plan and a flexible nursery, I have been able to overcome such issues.

What’s the best thing about being self employed?

I have been able to spend more time with my children and I don’t dread going to work anymore!

What are your plans for the future?

Global domination.

What advice would you give for someone just starting out?

Believe in your product or service and pay no mind to negativity. The only person who can hold you back is yourself.

Is there anything else you’d like to tell us?

I have been short listed for Britain’s Most Inspirational Small Business Owner and won four other business awards, including one from Theo Paphitis since I launched Pink Lemonade Productions as a rebranded business in May 2014.
